Second Transcription (Proofreader) Index

Every transcription must have a second transcriber. Censuses are a GREAT genealogical resource, but... they also leave much to individual interpretation. Poor penmanship, individual style... are all contributors!! One could lose their "senses"! The possibility of misinterpretation is diminished with second transcribers!

For more information on What is involved in being a second transcriber, please visit our Second Transcription Sign Up Page.

The first step is finding a 1st transcription that has already been completed or in progress that you would be willing to complete by doing a 2nd transcription. Using the table below, browse around until you find what you are seeking.

The USGenWeb Free Census Project was founded to put all of the US Federal Census records on-line, where everyone can use them for research, FREE of charge. Like everything we do in the USGenWeb Project, this is being done in the spirit of sharing, and you now have your chance to help us by sharing your resources and time to assure that all future researchers will have the benefit of all of the census enumerations at the click of the mouse. Thank you for considering our project.

Census Project since 1997

A Gift of the Past for the Future! Started in February, 1997, The USGenWeb Free Census Project is an all-volunteer project to transcribe census records in a standard format in order to make them available to genealogical researchers on the Internet.
